How does the guest move out?

The article was updated on 3. 6. 2024.

Curious about what the move-out process should look like and what you should take care of? Use this article to understand it all!

The guest has to move out of the rented property as soon as the lease agreement ends.

Before the guest's move-out date, we recommend that you confirm the time of your meet up with the guest. Even though the move-in and move-out times are set by you in advance within your listing, if needed, you can always agree on another time for the property takeover. Either way, it's important to try to avoid the guest leaving the property without it being reviewed by someone first.

During the guest's move-out, you should then properly check the state of the property. Your guests have the responsibility to leave your property in the same condition in which they took it over from you. For a thorough and official assessment of the property's state, you should always:

  • sign the takeover protocol with the guest, which can contain all relevant information (e.g., found defects, damages, and the agreement on their solution), and
  • document the state of the accommodation (e.g., through photographs or videos), so there is sufficient evidence in case of any disputable situations.

Note: Since it's necessary to sign the takeover protocol by both parties, we strongly recommend that you are personally present when the guest hands back the property so that you can immediately check its condition. If the guest hands over the housing to someone else, please properly instruct this person on how to take over the housing and what exactly should be reviewed.
