The decision was made after European authorities confirmed high levels of vaccination and naturally acquired immunity, and the accompanying relaxation of restrictions in a growing number of European countries.
One of the latest moves to loosen COVID rules is the European Union's decision to drop the face mask mandate for flights and airports.
"Face masks will no longer need to be mandatory in air travel in all cases, broadly aligning with the changing requirements of national authorities across Europe for public transport," the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) said in a statement.
