Finding the best place where you can truly focus and work for hours is complex, and for some, coworking spaces are not the best option. Luckily, Budapest has a near-infinite number of cosy cafés that are simply waiting for you to be a regular while working on your projects. Here are just a few.
Madal
Madal café is so prevalent in Budapest that it has since opened two more branches. Originally dedicated to a Buddhist philosopher of the same name, the café strives for a calm, peaceful atmosphere while serving you delicious drinks and desserts. Two branches on either Alkotmány or Hollán streets are also very popular with digital nomads and freelancers, so you can easily find new projects or friends here. Few places in Budapest will give you so much access to the nomad community for nothing more than a price of a coffee.
Dorado Café
Unlike some chain cafés, this one is often forgotten by most visitors to Budapest, making it the perfect place to sit down and do some work. It has both small tables for privacy and large tables for 10+ people to get together for projects. The place offers delicious strong coffee and freshly baked cakes (such as the lemon poppy seed cake), so you can be sure you’ll snack on something extraordinary as you focus. If you are looking for a place that isn’t be too crowded while being digital nomad friendly, look no further than Dorado café.
Massolit Books and Café
Massolit is an English language book and café establishment offering a well-stocked library and many places to sit, both inside and outside. The outside space has a slightly weaker Wi-Fi, but the shade of fig trees in the summer makes up for that. Situated in the Jewish district (or the 7th district), there are many excellent bars and other meeting places close by, so when you’re done working, you can go straight to enjoying the nightlife. And because of its location, there are also many professionals and students you can strike up a conversation with. Just make sure to come early because the café fills up fast.
Kelet Café
Kelet is one of the more cosy cafés on the Buda side of the city, with bookshelves lining the bar's walls and a pleasant, bright atmosphere. It offers good coffee, as is customary in Budapest, and Asian inspired food. While it gets a bit more crowded during the day, it’s still a perfect place to focus, and though this is not the best place for networking, you can be sure that no one will disturb you here. Overall, Kelet fills the gap of a café unknown to most digital nomads.
Béla Bar and Coffee
Béla Bar and Café is one of those often-overlooked gems that make one’s stay in Budapest a genuinely unique experience. With an inspiring interior, pleasant staff, delicious food and a laid back atmosphere, you will find yourself coming back here again and again. Their menu is in English, with a few mistakes that add to the charm. And once you’re done working, you can head on down to the cellar where local bands play everything from blues and swing to rock and electro. It’s truly a unique place to go.
