Free travel took a hit in the past couple of years. Still, with the roll-out of vaccines and the generally better understanding of the pandemic and how it spreads, many countries began opening their borders again, inviting visitors to enjoy themselves.
So, which countries are the most relaxed regarding ease of entry? Here are the top four best stress-free destinations for 2022.
Mexico
Mexico has a very relaxed approach when it comes to Covid restrictions. To enter the country, you don’t need any tests or even quarantines unless you come from countries with a more significant spike in cases. All you need to do is pre-register at the Mexico Vuela Seguro platform and then take a temperature measurement at the airport once you arrive.
The country itself does not require masks apart from all forms of public transportation and some public spaces like museums. You might see people wear masks in public in crowded areas, but this is a personal choice and is not enforced through rules. So you can get to and enjoy Mexico hassle-free.
Croatia
Croatia is one of the few European countries which took a more eased approach to restrictions. Before you arrive, you have to fill out an online health form and to enter the country, you either need to be vaccinated with two doses (between 14 and 365 days of getting the second shot) or need a negative PCR test result no older than 48 hours.
Once you’re there, you can enjoy bars, restaurants and the like - remember to wear masks in all enclosed public spaces. Thankfully, Croatia has endless beaches and beautiful islands to explore, so that you won’t spend much time inside anyway.
Hungary
Hungary has similar rules to Croatia when it comes to Covid. Teens and kids under the age of eighteen can enter the country without any restrictions if accompanied by double-vaccinated parents. Anyone who has been fully vaccinated can enter the country without any further limitations.
Unvaccinated adults will need a PCR test no older than 72 hours, but that’s pretty much it. Daily life in Hungary is undisturbed primarily, with the only restriction being the wearing of masks in shops, museums, theatres, and public transport. However, there are no plans for conditions for the unvaccinated, so you should have no problem enjoying a pleasant holiday.
Sri Lanka
While Sri Lanka is an easy country to get into (fully vaccinated people and people with a PCR test no older than 72 hours can get in just fine), it is the after-arrival period that can be a bit of a hassle. Unvaccinated visitors have to enter the “flexible bio bubble” for eight days, which essentially means a form of isolation.
Despite that, you can still visit some sights, and it’s just that you’re not allowed to tour freely. Vaccinated visitors can skip this step and go straight to enjoying themselves.
There are still some restrictions in place – some events and parties might be cancelled – and some hotels may ask you for a recent negative test, but otherwise, you’re free to enjoy this island to your heart’s content.
