Barcelona has long been recognized by locals and international visitors alike as a cultural metropolis with not a single month in a year when you can’t find amazing food, beautiful art, and exciting events. And June 2022 in Barcelona simply has tons to do. So here are our recommendations.
June performances in Barcelona
When it comes to musical performances, Barcelona is off the chain. June 4th has Young Blood, June 5th has Beck, Red Hot Chilly Peppers play on June 7th and so does James Blunt, Gary Numan on June 11th, Jethro Tull on June 12th, Tom Jones on June 25th, and Alicia Keys on June 30th.
But these are just individual performances. When it comes to festivals, there’s so much more to enjoy. The Primavera Sound Festival hosts greats like Gorillaz, Tame Impala, The Strokes, Lorde, M.I.A., and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. Sonar 2022 brings Chemical Brothers, Eric Prydz, Moderat, and more. The Vida Festival has hipster darlings like alt-J, The Avalanches, and Belle and Sebastian. And if you love classic rock, then you’ll love the Rock Fest Barcelona which brings classics like Kiss, Alice Cooper, Megadeth, Judas Priest, Nightwish, and Dropkick Murphys. When it comes to music, there’s scarcely a room to breathe between the gigs.
But performances are not just about music. The Grec Festival de Barcelona which begins on June 29th brings music together with dance, theatre, and circus performances. With comedies, tragedies, and classic as well as modern clown performances, this festival will bring tons of interesting things to experience.
Events in Barcelona in June
One of the largest events in Barcelona this month is the Barcelona Pride 2022 between June 23rd and 26th. With over 200 000 people in attendance in 2019, the 2022 edition is likely to be simply huge. There will be the parade itself together with international DJs, an outdoor foam party, drag queen shows, and galas. And the party itself does not stop until the small hours, so clear your schedule and prepare to party.
In recent years, Barcelona became one of the epicenters of the best and most innovative design in Europe. So when we recommend the Design Week which takes place between June 2nd to 22nd, you know you simply have to see it. You can expect interesting design ideas surrounding the aging population of Spain, as well as competitions for the best graphical and visual design, industrial design and design culture, and architecture and interior design. You’ll see the very best from both well-established professionals in the field as well as up-and-coming students.
There is another tradition that you cannot miss out on and that is the Patum da Berga. The festival originated in the Middle Ages as a sort of performance that accompanied the Corpus Christi procession. Now its historical significance has even been recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. Between June 15th and 19th, you can expect a truly unique mixture of fire, music, and symbolic characters that really need to be seen to be believed.
