In this guide, you'll find everything you need to know about this leading event in the world of software conferences, including event details, top speakers, and how to find accommodation for rent in Lisbon now that most hotels are already fully booked.

What is Web Summit?

Web Summit is one of the largest technology events in the world, which brings together people and ideas with a global impact. Many consider it to be, not only one of the biggest tech conferences, but one of the best tech conferences worldwide.

Founded in Dublin in 2009 by Paddy Cosgrave, Web Summit began as a small tech event with only 150 participants. Since then, it has grown significantly, gathering more than a million business professionals from around the globe at its different technology conferences.
The flagship event, Web Summit Lisbon is held annually in the Portuguese capital every November. Some elements of Lisbon Web Summit are broadcast as an online conference.

This tech convention attracts politicians, CEOs, investors, founders, media, and cultural leaders, with the mission of using technology to create connections between influential figures to shape a better future for the tech industry and beyond.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion

Web Summit says it is committed to promoting inclusion and diversity at its events by creating mentorship programs, developing networking opportunities, and expanding participation with the help of targeted community ticketing initiatives.

Since 2022, the Indigenous Attendee Program has highlighted the voices of Indigenous communities, resulting in the creation of a more inclusive technology ecosystem.

Through the women in tech program, the number of women taking part at different events of the Web Summit technology conference has increased from 25% in 2013 to 42%, with plans underway to increase that further.
