You already started packing your luggage to be ready for your fantastic journey to Hungary, but suddenly you get yourself looking at your laptop and its charger, and you wonder, do I need a power plug adapter or voltage converter for the power sockets in
apartments in Hungary?
Carrying electric equipment to foreign countries is always tricky on this side, but you don’t need to worry because we researched Hungarian sockets for you.
Power Plug Adapter
First of all, if you are a US citizen who wants to
stay in Europe for some time, you need a power plug adapter in Hungary, alongside a voltage converter. You must be extra careful with certain appliances because of the difference in frequency.
In Hungary, the power plugs and sockets are of type C and F which means your appliances with plugs A and B don’t fit sockets C or F, so the power plug adapter is necessary. The standard voltage of sockets in Hungary is 230 V, and the common frequency is 50 Hz.
Find the perfect accommodation in Budapest
There are plenty of websites (e.g. Amazon) where you will find a great selection of travel adapters. Because you will also need a voltage converter, you should consider a combined power plug adapter/voltage converter.
You cannot use your electric equipment in Hungary without any voltage converter due to the standard voltage (230 V), higher than in the United States (120 V).
It would help if you also used a voltage converter that changes frequency because the frequency is 50 Hz in Hungary, unlike in the US, where the frequency is 60 Hz.
That means you might seriously damage your devices if you ignore checking the label on your device correctly.
This applies to all kinds of chargers for tablets/laptops, photo cameras, cell phones, toothbrushes, hairdryers, curling irons, and others.
