If you have your finger on the pulse of digital nomad news, you will have heard by now about Madeira many times, but to a lot of people, this is still news. Madeira Island is truly an excellent place for digital nomads. But what makes this “Island of Eternal Spring” such a great place for remote workers? Read on and find out.
Weather and life
Like most people after the pandemic, many digital nomads have gone through burnouts or extreme fatigue after trying to keep up with a rapidly changing world. And for many, the idea of another city that’s moving all the time quickly might be too much to deal with right now. But Madeira Island is none of that. This place is a small heaven on Earth with its perpetually warm (but never scorching)
weather in Madeira, its digital nomad friendly cities, and beautiful people, beaches, and food.
Spending a few months living there might be what you need to wash out the sour aftertaste of the past few years – slow down and enjoy yourself. What’s also great is how friendly the whole Island is. Since a large portion of Madeira’s income comes from tourists, many of the people here are foreigner-friendly, and you won’t have any problems communicating with people in English. What’s more, Madeira Island was also named the safest destination in the world in 2015 by the World’s Leading Island destination award. With all of this, you can really put your worries to rest.
Digital Nomad Village
The Regional Government of Madeira has made strides to accommodate digital nomads far more than almost any other country. Through initiatives like Digital Nomads Madeira Islands (which Flatio happily supported), the Island is now home to a Digital Nomad Village. Its test run attracted so many remote workers to Madeira Island that there are now several such villages providing
accommodation in Madeira, coworking spaces, and community for its visitors.
More than just an island
Madeira Island has tons to do – whether you want to enjoy the principal city of Funchal and its lovely harbour atmosphere, or you want to go for a hike in the beautiful countryside along the small water-bearing levadas, or you want to lay down on a beach and catch some sun, this Island has you covered. But did you know that Madeira is an archipelago with three more islands - Porto Santo and the Desertas? What better plan for a weekend trip than to visit Porto Santo and see some of its natural beauties like the basalt columns (which are similar to the columns of the famous Giant’s Causeway in Ireland) and the picturesque Vila Baleira, where you can see the stone house of Christopher Columbus. Madeira, with its islands, will perfectly charm you with its quiet beauty and relaxing atmosphere.
