Top Jobs for Digital Nomads

So you know what the digital nomad lifestyle is about and you want in. That’s great! But how are you going to pay for it? What you need is a good job that’s paid well and that lets you travel the world at the same time. Impossible? Far from it. Here are the top five jobs for digital nomads.

Travel bloggers and influencers

While there are people who will whine that this is not a real occupation, there are thousands of people living their dream of writing / posting about their experiences abroad and making money off it. You can directly monetize your digital nomad experience and show everyone what the lifestyle is really like. The only downside is that the competition here is huge and you will need to think of a new angle if you want to have a voice as a blogger or an influencer.

Freelance translator

Translation is a great way to make money and these days most companies don’t really hire their own translation staff. So it’s up to small freelancers and large contractors to fill in the need. As a translator, the number one thing you will need to master is keeping deadlines and communicating with your clients but once you get into the swing of things, you can have a great time.

All you need for this job is a laptop and some internet connection and you’re good to go. One way to make sure you make it in this industry is to find some specific part of the industry where you want to translate like law, electronics, or medical fields. Having a specialization can make all the difference between being ignored and being sought after.

Programmer

By far the best paying job in the world these days (at least when it comes to commission and remote work) is programming. Whether you do networking, app development, front end development, or more there is just a wealth of coding that needs doing and employers are eager to pay good money to make sure it’s done right.

The digital nomad community is largely made up of programmers so you will also be able to find many like-minded people all across the globe. And who knows, maybe you will find far more interesting projects abroad than you would at home.

Graphic designer

At a time when every brand is looking for its own identity, being a graphic designer is a great career path. Whether you want to focus on web design or on other aspects of the company’s outward-facing image, you can be sure to always find work. It does require a lot of technical skills and there is even a small amount of talent involved but a hard-working nomad can still enjoy all the perks that come with working abroad even when they are not on the most professional level of graphical design.

Online teacher

Teachers are always needed. Whether you know languages, sciences, or are just a good life coach, you can fire up a Zoom session and help people see the world a little bit clearer. And since the pandemic has made everyone used to computers as a place of learning, most people are comfortable being taught through online call apps. So there is no better time than now to take your teaching skills online and take yourself out on an extended working vacation as a digital nomad.
