The recent boom in bike renting and sharing industry has brought forth a flood of companies which specialize in e-bike tours and rentals. But with variety often comes confusion as to what the best deal might be. We put together this article to help you decide where you want to rent a bike for your sightseeing trip, or for your daily commute to work.
Cheap bike and electric bike rentals in Prague
The first company we recommend is the Praha Bike which operates on the traditional rental basis. You book a bike online, pick it up, and then drop it off at the predetermined time. Their prices start at 16 € fortwo hours for the hourly rate and at 66 € for2 days as adaily rate. The price includes a few nice perks such as a safety lock and a helmet, a map with bike routes as well as a recommendation on where to go, emergency road service contact, safe storage of your things at their branch, and warm gloves for riding during winter (which is a sweet touch). To bike around Prague, you also need to pay adeposit of 200 € which you can do either by card or by cash, though the rental itself must be paid incash. They also offer extra services such as a Self-guided tour package for one day on Karlštejn, rear child seat or a tag-along, and other nifty add-ons.
The second company is Prague by E-Bike which provides you with a traditional bike rental, same as the one before, but their prices are cheaper than anywhere else. They only rent bikes for a 5 or 10 hour period, but even the first 5 hours is only for 25 € (the 10 hour offeris for 37 € which is a steal). Additionally, you’ll need a valid passport and a credit card for makingdeposits. Their friendly staff can provide you with many suggestions on the best bike that would suit your needs as well as good bike routes in Prague. The main drawback is the reservation, which can be made only via email or a phone call.
The thirdbike rental company we would like to introduce is City Bike Prague which is the first bike renting company in Prague, operating since 2001. They are conveniently located in Prague’s historic Old Town and are opened from April till October. They provide both normal and e-bikes for both hourly and daily rates. The hourly rates start at 14 €/2 hours for a normal bike and 18 €/2 hours for an e-bike. Additionally, they also provide tandem bikes, with prices starting at about 26 €/2 hours. The price also includes a safety helmet, a bottle of water, a safety lock, and a free city bike map. You also get a discount coupon for the Communist Museum as well as many bars in Prague.
In Prague, you can use a bike rent app
The most famous app for bike-sharing in Prague is Rekola. Their pink bikes can be seen all over the city and there are no bike racks which you need to find before returning the bike. You simply download an app and take a picture of the QR code on the bike. Then you’ll get the bike chain code to unlock it and when you’re done, you simply lock it in a designated area of Prague (found on their website) and mark it as returned in the app. You can even rent two bikes at the same time with one account. Their prices are also a good selling point, as a 30 min ride will only cost you 1 € and an unlimited number of rides is only 10 € per day.
