Remote Working and Networking in Budapest

We wrote about coworking spaces in Budapest, which can sometimes get you up to speed with what’s going on in the digital nomad community. However, there are still many other opportunities you should know about as a remote worker. Budapest is so full of events, groups, and meeting places for people just like yourself that to name them all would be impossible. So here’s a small sample of the best opportunities for remote workers in Budapest.

Online Groups for digital nomads in Budapest

One of the quickest ways of meeting people and getting info about the city from a perspective of a digital nomad is through online spaces, and the best place for that is Facebook. Specifically through the group Budapest, Digital Nomads. Here you can ask questions, see important notifications about coronavirus restrictions, and learn about events. Overall, it’s a great resource. If you’re looking for something more focused on everyday life, try the Expats in Budapest Facebook group.

This group is much more about sharing the everyday frustrations and joys of living in Budapest. It’s a great way to find friends fast and even learn some Hungarian while you’re doing it. Lastly, there is the Work in Budapest Facebook group. There are many job openings advertised here, most of which are in English, so it's not like non-native Hungarian speakers need not apply. It's also an excellent resource for finding new projects as well as advertising your existing ones.

Events and meet-ups in Budapest for remote workers

There are tons of places to go if you want to meet new people in real life. The Digital Nomad Hungary meetups organise everything from cooking workshops to walking tours and chillout meetups. Similar to this is the Budapest walking tour. While not strictly a space for remote workers only, we are going for a free walking tour of the city as a guaranteed way of meeting new arrivals to Budapest.

There are guided tours in various parts of town from the centre to the Jewish Quarter, and they are usually highly rated, informative, and just plain fun. Another great place to meet digital nomads and remote workers are the Nomad Nights. After you go through free online registration, you can look forward to networking, sharing stories of failure to learn from other people’s mistakes, and a DJ party afterwards. With all these different options, you should be up to speed in no time.
