Public Places for Remote Work in Lisbon

Lisbon is a multicultural city full of amazing people, delicious cuisine, and beautiful architecture. But while most people are stuck at work during the day and can’t enjoy the city, remote workers can. Working from cafés, libraries, or even parks combines work and pleasure in ways that working from home or from the office cannot. Here are the best public places in Lisbon for remote work.

Cafés for remote work in Lisbon

Cafés are great places for remote work. Who wouldn’t be productive with good food and coffee at their fingertips? And if you’re in the right place, you can find like-minded people who will share their experiences with you.

Copenhagen Coffee Lab, for example, became notorious among digital nomads and remote workers for being very open to them—they even organise coworking events. And its size means that you will most certainly sit together with other people at the same table, making conversation inevitable. Another place that is similar in its size, as well as nomadic popularity, is Hello Kristof whose coffee and baked snacks keep people working for hours.

For something a bit more lively, check out Comoba or Heim Café, the latter of which is renowned for its breakfast menu. You should also head down to Montana café but do so only on a warm day. The place tends to keep its doors open, creating an unpleasant draft in the winter.

Libraries for remote work in Lisbon

Libraries in Lisbon are better than in most cities in Europe. They are completely free, you can stay in them the whole day, you don’t need to register or buy anything, and many of them are beautifully designed inside and out. There are a few drawbacks like the fact you need to be as quiet as possible, can’t eat any snacks while inside the library, and the Wi-Fi can be a bit slow. But for the price of nothing, this is not too bad.

One of the best libraries in Lisbon is the Library de São Lázaro. The beautiful space is very inspirational, however, in the evening the library can be a bit busy and it’s hard to find space to sit. Biblioteca Camões is much bigger and is right in the centre. It offers free Wi-Fi and a beautiful view of the city. A big plus is the many restaurants and pubs around that you can use for a lunch break. And if you want a space where you can see some art while you relax, head on to the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian which is a library, museum, and a gallery combined.

Remote work public parks in Lisbon

Working in a park has a few drawbacks. There are no plugs or free Wi-Fi and you are entirely at the mercy of the weather. However, working outside has a few advantages that working inside doesn’t. With a mobile data hotspot and a full battery, you can enjoy beautiful surroundings in parks such as Jardim da Estrela, Parque Eduardo VII, or Jardim do Torel. Working outside can be a refreshing change to one’s routine, so try it out!
