Must-Try Routines for Digital Nomads

Finding the right routine for you can be a long process. Whether you need to work in short increments and have a ton of breaks or just sit down for hours and sweat it out followed by one long break, it can be hard to find your rhythm. That’s why these routines are worth a try as you find what suits you best.

Morning routine

One of the most underrated routines in a day is how you begin your day. Some people prefer to start with a shower while others need to eat some food first before they can be asked to do anything. However, you will need to include a few things in any morning routine no matter what.

Firstly, make sure you always get up around the same time. This is one of the most important ways to have a lot of energy, be productive, and have an easier time focusing. It also helps you keep your sleeping schedule as you will naturally get tired at around the same time in the evening.

Secondly, make sure you drink something. This can be as simple as a glass of orange juice for some while others might want to have a full-on tea ceremony that helps them relax and meditate. Caffeine is not mandatory, but it sure helps.

Lastly, find some time to pick out what you will wear for the day. Feeling comfortable in your clothes and having the right attire for the task at hand can help your brain switch to “work mode” much easier.

Space organization

A lot of people tend to work from their beds or whatever surface there is to put their laptop on but designating a specific space for your work will help you be more productive. This can be as simple as a table and a chair while others might need to look into coworking spaces if they want to have more of an office experience.

But don’t stop there. Separating your workspace from your relaxation space is also important. Ideally, you would have a different space for work, relaxation, exercise, and sleep. Some people simply take the four corners of their room and have each represent one of the four areas. But don’t be limited by your apartment. You can exercise outside or in a gym, work can be done in cafés or coworking spaces, and relaxation can take many forms as well. Don’t tie yourself down too much to just one space per activity - apart from sleep, perhaps.

Relaxation

Many people figure out their working routines and then completely forget about downtime. If you want to be productive, you need time to relax and do something you like. This can be anything from meeting friends, enjoying hobbies, watching, or reading something pleasant to going for a walk or learning a new skill.

A helpful way to think of your daily routine is to name how much free time you’d like and then curb your work around it. After all, the whole point of being a digital nomad, traveling, and working remotely is having the time to enjoy everything at your own pace.
